Weekly Wine(d) Up!
Take a glimpse below at one of my wine and food pairings from this weekend for inspiration with your next meal!
Anyone else feel like a great bottle of wine plus some take out comfort food is just a match made in heaven? Same here! This past weekend was one of the few opportunities we had where we did not have a million and one things to do so we decided to have a date night at home! We picked up take out from one of the local spots near our new apartment (if you can still call it new after two months?) and paired it with this BEAUT of a Pinot!
First the food…
We decided to try something different than what we have got here before which ended up being a sausage, pepper, onion, and spinach calzone as well as a vodka chicken parm and penne pasta. DELICIOUS! We definitely favored the vodka parm as the sauce (which we have had on their pizza before) was fantastic and the calzone was not something we particularly loved (when paired with the sauce for dipping it leveled this dish up though). I feel like vodka sauce is always being made into an unfriendly level of spicy nowadays but there is just something so comforting about just a creamy red sauce that the spice isn’t always needed. That’s at least my two cents. Don’t get me wrong, I love some heat but not when it over powers the dish.
Now on to the more important topic…
This wine is a truly incredible Pinot coming out of the Willamette Valley. I have bought three bottles of this specific Pinot over the past few months (anyone who knows me knows I rarely do this cause I like to try new things) because it is just that good! I tend to find Pinots from this region to be a little fruity but more on the peppery side. This is completely different. It feels like it has more of a Cali Pinot palate with how fruit forward it is but it’s not very juicy per se. It’s a hint of juicy but mostly fruity…if that makes sense. It’s very easy to drink and would even be, in my book, considered a couch crusher or, now that we’re heading towards warmer weather, a porch pounder. Dare I even say this could be amazing chilled? I will have to test it out and let you know but one thing to take away from this would be: get the wine and try it out because it is food friendly or like all strong independent women: just fine on it’s own!
We ended our night by playing do or drink: date night edition which was so fun! We love to play games at home especially when it’s just us at home or when we have guests over and this was a fun way to spend time together but make it interesting. Definitely some spicy questions (so thank goodness our past wasn’t spicy ~lol~) but also some deeper questions which I think is really nice to reflect on especially when you have been with your partner for awhile!
That’s all for now so…
Until next time wine lovers, cheers!
