Weekly Wine(d) Up!
Take a glimpse below at one of my wine and food pairings from this weekend for inspiration with your next meal!
What a weekend! We got to spend lots of time with family and friends alongside some incredible food and great wine. Definitely feeling grateful for these moment in life. Friday night we had a little change in plans which allowed us to stay in and have some dinner at home. It was an incredibly busy day with work and some things after work that I just wanted to make us something super easy and super delicious. You can never go wrong with making your own pizza and pairing that with a salad especially when you have a great wine to go along with it!
First, the food…
One of my favorite places to get ingredients for homemade pizzas is Trader Joe’s! They always have an array of different sauces and so many cheese options so you can get super creative with your pizza. I also like getting olive oil from here. It’s really affordable and they have different flavored olive oil like the garlic olive oil I used with some lemon juice to dress our salad. The pizza I made this week consisted of their red pepper and almond pesto, Quattro frommago mixed with the TJ’s pizza cheese and a little sprinkle of parm, thinly sliced Campari tomato’s, a few dollops of the vegan kale pesto, and some Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and onion powder. This pizza took a little longer to cook than the packaged directions at 425 degrees (I would say more like 15 minutes as opposed to 8) and I also stabbed a few holes in the pizza dough before cooking which made a very crispy bottom. Something I would also recommend that I have done in the past for crispy pizza is using a non-stick baking mat on the baking sheet or a pizza stone!
The salad we made was very simple! We just did some romaine, sun dried tomatoes, fresh mozzarella balls, and cucumber which we then added some seasonings (same as we did for the pizza), lemon juice, and some garlic olive oil. This was super quick to put together but really nice to have as something a little more refreshing on the side for #health. I think next time I would add in some roasted red pepper and do fresh tomatoes instead of sun dried. I think the sun dried tomatoes would pair really nicely with some marinated artichoke hearts though!
Now on to the more important topic…
To cut through some of the richness and saltiness of this dinner, I paired this with a really light and refreshing rosé! This rosé is really affordable coming in under $20 and I would definitely get this again. I don’t know that I have had an NZ rosé before but I want to try more! This drank like a Provence style rosé so it was very light and easy to drink. I don’t think you need to pair this with food at all but it does help cut through richness in a dish but it would also be great with something spicy. This is a very food friendly wine!
The rest of this weekend was really fun! We spent Saturday afternoon at a Flyer’s game and then went out in the city to celebrate an important birthday. PSA: if you are in the Philly area and get the chance to go to the new Garage that’s opened in Center City, GET THEIR CHEESESTEAK. I kid you not this was one of the best cheesesteaks I have had in the longest time and it comes with the most delicious fast food style fries. Their other food was a hit too but I was too focused on the cheesesteak to try anything else. We also watched the Master’s on Sunday and got to meet some new people and play golf at a golf simulator at a family friend’s house which was really fun. There was also the most delicious charcuterie board so I was a happy gal. All around a really busy but really fun weekend!
That’s all for now so…
Until next time wine lovers, cheers!
